Patrick Daugherty was named head golf coach in August 2013. He was Bearcat assistant coach the previous three seasons.
The Willamette Bearcats shot consistent team scores 308-306-306-308 and finished 13th at the 2019 NCAA D-III Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY. Illinois Wesleyan fired an opening 287 and held or shared the lead each round, finally edging Huntingdon by three strokes the final day. Guilford, Concordia U (TX) and Methodist rounded out the top five.
Low scorers for the Bearcats were Austin Davis (78-75-73=73=299), who tied for 24th and Samuel Hinton (77-71-77-77=302) in 32nd. Three of the four rounds were played on the 7,190-yard, par-72 Champion Trace course where the 42-team, 217-player field posted a 78.8 scoring average.
Willamette shot 309-289 to win the 2019 Northwest Conference Championship at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, WA. The Bearcats claimed the title by nine strokes over George Fox, Whitworth was third and Pacific Lutheran fourth in the nine-team tournament. Willamette took the NWC title based on points earned in three tournaments. Wine Valley played to 6,760 yards, par 72 and yielded an 80.6 stroke scoring average. Gusty wind conditions pushed scores about six shots higher for the first round.
Austin Davis (78-71-149) and Samuel Hinton (80-69=149) tied for third to lead the Bearcats. Trent Jones (77-73=150) was a shot back in fifth.
Willamette placed third in 2018, 2017 and 2016 at the NWC Championship.
Willamette won the 2015 Northwest Conference Championship at Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, OR. However, Whitworth edged the Bearcats by a point 30-29 in the overall 2014-15 NWC standings to earn the berth to the NCAA D-III Championship.
The Bearcats finished fourth in 2014 and seventh in 2013 at the Northwest Conference Championship. They were eighth in 2011 and seventh in 2012.
