Justin Smith was promoted to head men's golf coach in June 2019. He served the previous two seasons as Golden Gopher associate head coach after being named assistant coach in 2014. Smith competed for Minnesota 2000-2004 and helped lead the Gophers to the NCAA Finals three times and win two Big Ten titles.

Competing as an individual, Minnesota's Angus Flanagan tied for 20th (76-70-71=217) at the 2019 NCAA D1 Austin Regional at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Tex. Players enjoyed good weather at the par 71, 7,355-yard course, where 39 subpar scores were posted and the average 18-hole score was 74.1 strokes.

University of Minnesota couldn't sustain momentum from a strong start, placing ninth in the 2019 Big Ten Conference Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course in Flourtown, Pa. Five-time champion Illinois took the lead after two rounds then outlasted Purdue on the final day to win by five strokes. Rounding out the top five teams were Michigan State in third, Michigan in fourth and Nebraska in fifth. Weather was a mixed bag throughout the tournament, with decent conditions existing during the final round. Scores were up an average of four strokes during the second round due to high winds at the par 72, 7,102-yard course, where the average 18-hole score was 72.3 strokes.

The Gophers' Angus Flanagan shared medalist honors after tying for first with a 4-under 212 (65-77-70). Evan Long tied for 39th (74-73-79=226)

Minnesota finished 14th in the 2018 Big Ten Conference Championship, 10th in 2017, 11th in 2016 and third in 2015.

Minnesota placed ninth in the 2014 NCAA D-I Raleigh Regional, and won the Big Ten Conference Championship.

Minnesota placed second in the 2013 Big Ten Conference Championship, seventh in 2012, and eighth in 2010 and 2011.  The Gophers just missed earning a nationals berth, finishing seventh in the 2009 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional, and took second in the 2009 Big Ten Conference Championship.

The Gophers also finished second in the 2008 Big Ten tournament, after sharing the conference tournament title with Michigan State in 2007.

Minnesota won the 2002 NCAA Championship.

Minnesota finished tied for ninth at the 2007 NCAA D-I Championship, and tied for third in 2006.
