Chris Whitten was named head coach in June 2001. He served five years as Michigan assistant coach prior to being promoted to head coach. Whitten played at Notre Dame.
University of Michigan improved its scores each round and finished fourth in the 2019 Big Ten Conference Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course in Flourtown, Pa. Five-time champion Illinois took the lead after two rounds then outlasted Purdue on the final day to win by five strokes. Rounding out the top five teams were Michigan State in third, Michigan in fourth and Nebraska in fifth. Weather was a mixed bag throughout the tournament, with decent conditions existing during the final round. Scores were up an average of four strokes during the second round due to high winds at the par 72, 7,102-yard course, where the average 18-hole score was 72.3 strokes.
Charlie Pillon (72-72-69=213) took third and Nick Carlson (71-74-75=220) tied for 11th to pace the Wolverines.

The Wolverines finished 10th in the 2017 NCAA D-I Washington Regional, and ninth in the Big Ten Championship.

University of Michigan finished 12th at the 2014 Big Ten Conference Championship, and 10th in 2011, 2012 and 2013 Big Ten Conference Championship. In 2010, the Wolverines tied for 10th at the 2011 NCAA Championship and won the NCAA Central Regional.
Michigan finished sixth at the 2010 NCAA Central Regionals, and took fourth in the Big Ten tournament.
Michigan finished in a tie for third at the 2009 NCAA Championships. The Wolverines placed fifth at the NCAA Division I Southwest Regional.
