Tina Barrett was promoted to head men’s and women’s golf coach at OUAZ in June 2019 after serving two seasons as assistant coach. Prior to joining OUAZ, Barrett spent eight years as the Director of Programs and Events at The First Tee of Phoenix. Barrett played 19 years on the LPGA Tour after competing at Longwood University.
Ottawa University of Arizona finished fourth, nine shots out of second, in the 2019 Golden State Athletic Conference Championship at Catta Vedera Country Club in Lincoln, Calif. Vanguard University took the lead after the second round and pulled away late to score a 15-stroke victory over runner-up Hope International. Menlo placed third in the six-school tournament. The course was par 72, measuring 5,801 yards and produced an average 18-hole score of 89.5 strokes.
Kayli Melissa took fifth (87-77-91=255) and Haley Kapanacis ninth (87-86-90=263) to lead the lead in scoring.
Ottawa shot higher each round and placed fifth in the fall 2018-19 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championship at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. Biola bumped its winning margin to 22 strokes over Erskine with a closing 309, Campbellsville finished third and Bethel (IN) took fourth.
OUAZ's Kayli Melissa (80-78-80=238) tied for ninth, and Haley Kapanacis (76-86-82=244) was 19th. The nine-team, 49-player field recorded an 18-hole scoring average of 85.3 over three rounds on the 6,028-yard, par-72 course.
