Robert Bastian was named head golf coach in May 2017 after serving as one year as interim head golf coach and one year as assistant coach. He graduated from Ferris State University in 2014 with a degree in professional golf management and served one season as assistant coach at Marquette University.
The Northern Michigan Wildcats posted their best team score 314 in the second round and placed seventh in the 12-team 2019 NCAA D-II East Regional at The Pearl Club in Owensboro, KY. Findlay came from behind in the final round to defeat fading Indianapolis by eight strokes. It was 30 shots back to Grand Valley State in third and two more shots to Missouri-St. Louis in fourth, the last spot to advance to the D-II Championship. Tiffin was fifth, seven strokes out of fourth. The 65-player field recorded an 80.5-stroke scoring average in windy conditions on the 5,989-yard, par-72 course. Only 10 rounds at par 72 or better were posted over 54 holes.
Caro Els (75-72-78=225) tied for sixth to lead Northern Michigan, and Karissa Guthrie (79-78-78=235) tied for 22nd.
The Wildcats lost their chance for the top four and match play with a second-round 323 in the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Championship at Gull Lake View Resort in Augusta, Mich. Grand Valley State fired 299-291 to blitz the field in stroke play winning by 46 strokes over runner-up Davenport. Northwood claimed third, Wayne State (MI) was fourth and Northern Michigan came in fifth, two strokes out of match play. The course was par 72, measuring 5,962 yards, and it produced an average 18-hole score of 82.7 strokes.
The Wildcats' low scorer was Caro Els (75-77=152), who took fifth. Karissa Guthrie (79-80=159) finished 14th, and Haley Hewer (83-82=165) tied for 24th.
Northern Michigan finished seventh in the 12-team 2018 NCAA D-II East Regional. The Wildcats were second in the 2018 GLIAC Championship.
