Coach John Forton (since 2014) competed at Western Michigan and Aquinas College after playing in the 1976 USGA Junior Amateur. Forton is the Director of Instruction at Egypt Valley Country Club, and he has given over 35,000 lessons in 30 years of teaching. Forton has been honored as MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
The 2019-20 season was halted in March before Grand Rapids CC competed in a spring event. This summary is for the last event of the fall, the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. In competition against 4-year schools, the GRCC Raiders opened with 367 in strong winds and followed with 335 to finish 15th of 19. Keiser U won by 35 strokes over runner-up Texas Wesleyan, and Ferris State took third. The course was par 72, 6,788 yards. The first-round scoring average was 91.5 and second round was 85.3 strokes
Tyler Hausserman (91-82=173), Cooper Bell (88-86=174) and Mitch Denhartigh (90-84=174) were the low scorers for the Raiders.
Grand Rapids CC shrugged off a slow start and finished 14th in the 2019 NJCAA D-II Championship.
Grand Rapids CC finished 15th in the 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championship, 16th in 2017, tied for seventh in 2015, ninth in 2014, sixth in 2012, third in 2011 and fifth in 2009.
