In 2017 Faulkner State Community College became Coastal Alabama Community College via merger of three schools - Faulkner State Community College, Alabama Southern Community College and Jefferson Davis Community College.
The athletics teams are still the Sun Chiefs.

Coastall Alabama CC finished strong with a 292 final round on the way to a 19th-place finish in the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Championship at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla. Central Alabama CC, fourth after two rounds and down 12 strokes to the leader, shot 23-under during the final two rounds to win the school's eighth national title. Indian Hills CC finished second, 13 strokes back of the winner, while rounding out the top five were Midland, New Mexico JC and Calhoun. The course was par 72, measuring 7,127 yards and produced an average score of 74.8 strokes.
James Sherwood led the Sun Chiefs, tying for 67th (79-74-78-69=300).
Coastal Alabama CC placed 16th in the 2018 NJCAA Division I Championship, 17th in 2017 and 16th in 2016.
Faulkner State CC claimed 10th in the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Championship, and tied for first in the NJCAA D1 Region XXII Championship.
The Sun Chiefs placed 10th in the 2014 NJCAA D-I National Championship, and sixth in the NCJAA District 4 Championship.
Faulkner State CC placed 19th at the 2013 NJCAA Division I Championshi, eighth in the NJCAA District 4 Championship and third in the NJCAA Division I Region XXII Championship.
Faulkner State CC finished third behind Central Alabama and Wallace State in the 2012 NJCAA D-I Region 22 Championship, and tied for seventh at the NJCAA District 4 Championship.
