Matt Ward was named head golf coach in July 2018. He spent the previous four years as head coach at Colorado Mesa University. Before Mesa, Ward was assistant coach at Jamestown College and Minnesota State-Mankato. He has extensive teaching experience. Ward earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation, Park and Leisure Studies from the University of Minnesota. He added a Master of Liberal Studies from the University of Minnesota and completed a Master of Science Degree in Sport Management from Minnesota State.
TAMU-Commerce's Lucas McCubbin competed as an individual at the 2019 NCAA D-II Regional in St. George UT. He shot 72-70-72=215, tying for 19th in a field of 108 players.
The Texas A&M-Commerce improved its team score each round but fell four strokes short of first in the 2019 Lone Star Conference Championship at Diamondback Golf Club in Frisco, Tex. Midwestern State fired a closing 7-under 277 to hold off the Lions, and Western New Mexico finished third in the six-team tournament. The par-71, 6,977-yard course yielded 73.0 stroke scoring average.
The Lions' Joe Wolcik (71-71-68=210) and Blake Hartford (70-70-71=211) took third and fourth.

In the 2014 Lone State Conference Championship, Texas A&M-Commerce opened with a team score 298 to earn the #1 seed. The Lions defeated #4-seed West Texas A&M 4-1. Commerce then lost to #3-seed Cameron 4-1 for the 2014 Lone Star Conference title.
Texas A&M-Commerce placed fourth in the six-team 2013 Lone Star Conference Championship.
