Krystal Kelly was promoted from Santa Clara assistant coach to head coach in February 2011 and made an immediate positive impact on team performance. The Broncos keep improving and notched three team victories in both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Kelly earned All-American honors at UCLA and played on a Bruin NCAA Championship team. Kelley is a Class A PGA professional, and she competed professionally from 2006-08.
Santa Clara fired a tournament-best second-round 280 (-8) and finished second of ten in the fall 2018-19 UC Irvine Invitational at Santa Ana Golf Club in Santa Ana, Calif. Cal Poly edged the Broncos by four shots for the title with California Baptist, South Dakota State and Long Beach State rounding out the top five. Scoring conditions were ideal at the par 72, 6,072-yard course, where the average 18-hole score was 75.0
The Broncos' Marni Murez (73-67-71=211) and Emily Sumner (72-68-75=215) were a combined nine-under for the second round and placed in the top 10.
Santa Clara placed fifth of five, 12 shots out of fourth, in the 2018 West Coast Conference Championship at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif. Brigham Young won its third consecutive WCC title, rallying during the final round to tie Pepperdine, then outlasting the Waves in a playoff. Weather was good at the par 72, 6,221-yard course, where the average score was 77.4 strokes.
Sarah Busey finished 10th (77-79-74=230) and Kyleigh Moreno 15th (79-78-78=235) to pace the Broncos.
